To lead an active sex life as you grow older is what everybody desires. And there are often normal physical changes in both men and women that may make this difficult.
Men may experience erectile dysfunction, the inability to keep an erection for sexual intercourse. Women may experience less vaginal lubrication, making it difficult to have and enjoy sex.

Additionally, some illnesses, medicines, disabilities and surgeries can interfere with your ability to have sex.
Illnesses such as arthritis, diabetes, heart disease or stroke will decrease your sex drive and obstruct your capacity to have sex. Surgeries such as a hysterectomy or a prostatectomy in which all or part of a man's prostate is removed due to cancer or an enlarged prostate will also decrease your sex drive.

While these physical problems are normal as you age, there are a number of things that you can do to continue enjoying sex in later life. Make your partner a priority and take time to enjoy and understand each other, being sensitive to each other's physical limitations and changes. You can try new times, such as having sex in the mornings when you are both well rested. Take your time. You or your partner may need more time to become fully aroused, so don't rush yourself.

If you have physical problems, such as ED or vaginal dryness, speak with your doctor. Vaginal dryness can be remedied by over-the-counter lubricants and moisturizers. Lubricants can be helpful and make sex more comfortable and enjoyable. ED can be managed and sometimes reversed through various medications such as Viagra, Cialis, Levitra. Other treatments include penile implants, vacuum devices, and self-injection drugs.

Physical changes and problems can disrupt your sex life as you age, but they do not have to put a complete stop to your sexuality.
